Children's book

As one of the final assignments in our Illustration course, I did illustrations for Hilaire Belloc's "Jim", which you may know is a poem about a little boy who on a visit to the Zoo, runs away from his nurse and is eaten by a lion.  Here are some of the pages:

 

Story without words

We were to produce a three - page story without words: here it is (with thanks to the model).

This project was to produce a postcard referring to a movie - I hope you can recognise the film I am referring to here -

Inspired by Bob Dylan song

We were given an assignment to do an image illustrating a Bob Dylan song - I chose "Shelter from the Storm"

A spoil of cooks

The assignment here was to illustrate a collective noun.  It was great fun to do - and there were lots of other good and witty collective nouns on the list; it might be fun to try illustrating other ones when time permits . . .

You're a king and the lady's a queen -

Perhaps I should have included the lady on her bike . . .

A couple of birds

Here is a picture I did of a pair of bullfinches that came to our birdfeeder.  The male looked like a gangster with dark glasses on. . .

Some illustrations for a children's story

The assigment was to do a series of five illustrations suitable for children or young people.  I did a sequence 

of five pictures to illustrate a story for small children (a moral story about how less is more, or more can be less, anyway)

"Boy in desperate need of teddy
bears.   Do you have any

Some representational pieces

These are some paintings I made of the University Church in St Stephen's Green in Dublin.  It is a nineteenth century church, in the Byzantine style; the walls are panelled with marble of many colours and there is a mass of carved detail.  The effect is very dramatic.

These are proposed illustrations for "Where the Wild Things Are":  the Wild Things are tossing Max in a blanket.

This is a print I did to illustrate a short story by P.G. Wodehouse, in which the heir to the earldom falls in love with a circus performer:
